This is the time of year to take stock, commit to new resolutions, and all that good stuff. I'm not much of a list person. I like the idea and I do make the lists but I lose them, forget them, or just plain neglect them. Doesn't stop me from trying again.
Last year's resolutions were fun and I did do quite a bit. Full list here. Focusing on several things to do that list but mostly committing myself to the creative process... daily. Something, however small. I saw this graph (pictured below) on Crazy Aunt Purl's site. I thought it would be a fun place to start, tweaking it with my own style (I think she made her daily priorities up top and gave herself a star for doing them). I made my daily priorities a bit generic and then wrote what I did that day to achieve that topic.
For example, under "write," I might write a blog post or write a letter or whatever. It doesn't matter as long as I write something. Do I have to do everything - every day? Of course not. Just make them priorities and see where this year takes me. I'd like to be more enlightened, more musical, healthier, more well-read, cleaner (in body, mind, & spirit as well as the place I dwell). I also added a little snippet at the end for "Pinterest." I'd like to try something at least twice a month so I can move pins to my board: Pins I Tried & Liked!
As you can see, I started putting frown-y faces on points I didn't do that day. I'm stopping that as of today. It wasn't a fail, it just meant that I focused my priorities in different areas that day. I'll take that as a win.
Today, I started Christine Kane's [LOVE her] Uplevel Your Life audio book. I listened to the intro and chapter 1 which happens to be about identifying leaks in your life. Things that drain your energy because you procrastinate about it or worry about it, spending more time and energy on it then actually accomplishing it in the first place. Ironically or serendipitously, however you want to look at it, I opened this audio book today because I looked in my downloads folder and saw all the things I've downloaded but haven't looked at or listened to yet. Leaks in my life, if you will. Just like not organizing my desk or getting my oil changed, etc. You get the idea. So, I will listen to that chapter a few more times today and start identifying those leaks in my life. I have some pretty mindless work to handle today so it's a good time to delve into this chapter.
So, here's to you 2013. Love you for all that you are and everything you will be.
